Altar Servers

Altar Serving at St Anselm’s involves ensuring that each liturgical service is a joyful, reverent celebration for all the people who are there, participating in the Service – this might be the parishioners, the Deacons, the priests and your fellow Altar Servers.

There are many things to do as an Altar Server. You might be asked to carry the Processional Cross as the service begins and ends. You might carry the Altar Candles or prepare the Altar during the offertory, with the Missal and the Sacred Vessels so that the Priest or Celebrant can celebrate the liturgy. You will also be responsible for clearing things away after the service, ensuring that all items are returned to the Sacristy and put away, ready for the next service.

Full training will be given, if you decide that you would like to be an Altar Server.

If you have made your First Communion and can show your certificate, you can become an Altar Server. Come to the church office, when it is open or speak to one of the priests or someone who is part of the Parish Team.
